As used herein, "adjacent word line" refers to a word line physically positioned within a memory array structure such that the word line is adjacent to a selected word line. In certain embodiments, word lines of a memory array are programmed in sequential order from a first word line, e.g., WL 0 up to a last word line, e.g., WL X. In such an embodiment, any word line of the memory array may be the selected word line, referred to herein as WLn, and the next, or subsequent, word line to be programmed in the memory array is the adjacent word line, referred to herein as WLn+1, because it is the next word line programmed in the memory array.
