"Unified document" refers to a logical information structure comprising a consolidated and/or coordinated aggregation of content, data, records, segments, entries, or representations such that the logical information structure may be treated as a single coherent unit for purposes of processing, retrieval, analysis, storage, transmission, and/or presentation, regardless of whether the underlying content resides in one and/or multiple physical files, storage locations, data structures, databases, and/or systems. A unified document may be constructed dynamically, assembled from linked and/or referenced components, generated on demand, persistently stored, versioned, cached, indexed, and/or otherwise maintained in physical and/or logical form and may be represented in human-readable and/or machine-readable formats. A unified document may include textual content, structured data, metadata, annotations, embedded objects, multimedia elements, relational references, or the like. Synonyms include consolidated document, composite document, ag-gregated document, logical document, assembled document, virtual document, or the like.
