"Hardware processing device" refers to a physical computational component capable of executing instructions, performing operations, processing data, controlling execution flow, or otherwise carrying out computational tasks within a system. A hardware processing device may include a central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), tensor processing unit (TPU), digital signal processor (DSP), field-programmable gate array (FPGA), application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), microcontroller, system-on-chip (SoC), neural processing unit (NPU), accelerator device, server processor, edge processor, distributed processing node, virtualized hardware instance, cloud-based compute resource, or the like and may operate independently or in coordinated association with one or more additional hardware processing devices. A hardware processing device may be located locally, remotely, distributed across multiple physical locations, implemented in a data center, deployed at an edge node, or otherwise arranged within a computing environment. Synonyms include processor, computing device, processing unit, compute node, processing hardware, computational hardware, or the like.
