In Figure 5A, the expandable intervertebral implant 300 is in a collapsed configuration. Figure 5A illustrates how the screw member 400 can be inserted into the opening 150 to cause the expandable intervertebral implant to transition from a collapsed configuration to a partially expanded configuration or fully expanded configuration. The screw member 400 may be passed through a cannula or inserted into the opening 150 directly by a user. In one embodiment, a cross-section for the tapered end 416 is smaller than, or not larger than, a height and width of the opening 150.
