Figure 4A is a perspective view of a distal end of an expansion mechanism 160 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. The expansion mechanism 160 may be formed of any biocompatible materials, including but not limited to biocompatible metals such as Titanium, Titanium alloys, stainless steel alloys, cobalt-chromium steel alloys, nickel-titanium alloys, shape memory alloys such as Nitinol, biocompatible ceramics, and biocompatible polymers such as Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) or a polylactide polymer (e.g. PLLA) and/or others. In some embodiments, the expansion mechanism 160 may be formed of different materials than the expandable intervertebral implant 100. For example, the expansion mechanism 160 may be formed a material that is suitably strong enough to withstand torque applied to the driver 162 of the expansion mechanism 160 to activate the driver 162.
