One technique for preserving, modeling, and reflecting the position and/or orientation of the bones of the patient in the medical imaging 1030 is for the model 1312 used in the system 1000 to adopt same coordinate system as the medical imager 1010. Of course, in certain embodiments, the coordinate system of the system 1000 (e.g., the patient-specific device design apparatus 450) may be the same as the coordinate system for the medical imager 1010. In certain embodiments, if the coordinate system of the medical imager 1010 differs from the system 1000 (e.g., the patient-specific device design apparatus 450), the system 1000 (e.g., the patient-specific device design apparatus 450) may be configured to change (change the coordinate system of the patient-specific device design apparatus 450) to use the same coordinate system as the medical imager 1010.
