In one embodiment, the user 1002 can change over the course of initiating generation of a patient-specific device 1090 to its final fabrication. For example, the user 1002 may initially be a surgeon and the surgeon may operate the patient-specific device design apparatus 450 to initiate generation of a patient-specific device 1090, such input from a surgeon may be considered a prescription 1100 sufficient to satisfy regulatory requirements for a jurisdiction that recognizes the surgeon as one qualified to perform the surgical procedure. Later, an operator may interact with the patient-specific device design apparatus 450 to generate the patient-specific device 1090.
