For example, suppose a patient has midfoot bones that have osteoporosis and/or are otherwise of a very fragile and brittle condition, a surgeon may decide to include one or more auxiliary bone attachment features 752 at various positions around the body 732. These auxiliary bone attachment features 752 can be strategically positioned using the bone model 404 (and/or a model of a resection guide 720) such that a fastener 710 in an opening of an auxiliary bone attachment feature 752 engages higher quality and/or stronger bone than the bone beneath one or more other openings in other bone attachment features 724. Advantageously, a position for an auxiliary bone attachment feature 752 can be determined by a surgeon (e.g., a user) of the resection guide 720. In this manner, the resection guide 720 can be further customized to the needs or preferences of a particular patient and/or surgeon.
